I was commissioned by Liverpool based company 'In The Red' to create open mic night posters each month.
Topman made a campaign called 'Open Shoot', where people can send their own pieces of work or photos to the competition, and potenially be included in the music video "X marks the spot" by musician Ghostpoet. I submitted my pattern made of multiple vinyl records in the style of a japanese pattern. Topman were happy with my submission and the pattern appears in the music video, with other people's entries.
My work appears at around 1:39 for a split second.
This was a project that I did last where I photographed 30 different manhole covers on the streets of both Huddersfield and Chester. I notieced there are some interesting reliefs and patterns on hole covers which most people don't realise. I then interpreted them in my own way, by changing scale, adding colour and simplifying them. I then made a book of all the different compositions I made based on the hole covers. In the book I decided to only use black and white because I like working with negative space and I think it makes it more striking to look at.
Like the Ghostpoet campaign, Topman teamed up with indie rock band spector for creators/artists to send in their original for their music video "Kyoto Garden". Because it related to a garden and nature, I sent in one of my screenprints of a black and white wooden texture. I also sent in more of my work, including a warped image of lines that I experimented with on a scanner. This time, they used two of my sent pieces of work on the video!
